Education 👉 Idea-Sharing 👉 Diplomacy 👉 Friendship 👉 Tech

A welcome note from the
Secretary-General

Hi! 😊 Welcome aboard this experience.

Technology is conquering the World. From automation to genetic engineering, Tomorrow's society is going to be dominated by the Advent of Tech. However, in an increasingly digital society, we often question if our Leaders are willing and able to embrace this change. Welcome to MUN+351, a new Young Leaders Summit crafted to prepare our generation for the challenges of a technological Tomorrow. Combining talks, workshops and debates, MUN+351 is the ultimate conference for those looking to improve public speaking & negotiation skills, listening and working alongside world-class speakers. Tech + Diplomacy have never been closer and, in this increasingly fast-moving World, it's our time to make a difference and shape Tomorrow's society.

Want to do + for a better Tomorrow? So do we.
Join us in believing in +

I hope to see you all very soon 👋

Keep in touch,

MUNifesto.

By setting out to change the Model United Nations paradigm, we are inevitably setting a new vision for what we believe the contemporary MUN should become. The responsibility of inciting education and critical thinking is one we do not take lightly. We seek to empower every student, chaperone, volunteer and organiser to be the change they want to see in the World. Our MUNifesto is deeply rooted in our DNA and this vision extends far beyond the scope of MUNs. It’s our heading, the path we invite you to trek with us. More importantly, it is a compromise we agreed on not only with ourselves but with the World and, of course, with you.

Education
Idea-Sharing
Future

We believe in Education.

It was through extra-curricular projects and the opportunity to participate in workshops, conferences, forums and debates that students like us found the opportunity to meet, bond and develop skills that have allowed to confidently move onto university and to the job market.

We believe in Idea-Sharing.

MUN’s gave us the opportunity to better understand world 🌍 affairs and current events through an interactive, motivating and enriching way. In an increasingly critical world, the skills we developed by participating in over 30 conferences taught us the importance of constantly questioning our surrounding society.

We believe in a Future.

Through education and idea-sharing, we are laying the path for a bright Future. We don’t accept generational labels or stigmas and, every day, strive for higher order level thinking and an active role in the World.

Our debate means business! Diplomacy takes centre stage and you're the key player, ensuring that world issues are debated and resolutions are achieved. Lobby, draft and present striking clauses that will shake the house. Unlike some conferences, we've crafted ours to be clause-based, giving teach delegate more opportunities to speak. Camp Talks

We’re now in the process of finalising our camp line-up. Although we can’t yet reveal the final list of speakers, we’re happy to announce that participants will have access to three types of talks.

+TALKS
These are lecture-type talks which aim to introduce intriguing and thought-provoking concepts on issues concerning “The Advent of Technology”. +TALKS will be delivered by key figures at the forefront of the technology sector.

DEBATE2
Mostly focusing on developing and strengthening essential debating skills such as speech writing and speech delivering - tackling one’s tone, diction and volume. DEBATE2 talks are also designed to give participants all they need to prepare for the upcoming debate session.

50/FIFTY
Unlikely conversations between two experts on a pertinent Advent of Technology or Model UN topic. Both will try to incite their contrasting points of view - creating a rather informal but debate-friendly environment, pefect to spark a great discussion.

Camp Experience

Arriving from all corners of Europe, our participants will come together for 3 thrilling educational days. First, world-class lecturers will talk on the pressing topics of the 21st century, with a special focus on our guiding theme. Then, master-classes on debating, public speaking and other soft skills alike. Lastly, a series of engaging workshops will give them the space to put to practice what they’ve been learning, always in a constructive environment. In this week, participants will also embark on a cultural experience, exploring the city and its diversity, enjoying touristic opportunities and relaxing moments.

360X351

MUNs are great tools to put to the test student’s speaking skills, research abilities and debating proficiency. We are strong believers in how MUNs are fundamental tools shaping an informed, critical and proactive young leader. This led us to chose this international and proven model as the backbone of our Leadership Summit. However, as we evolved and developed our fundamental principles, we came across an important and unexplored path: MUNs always ask participants to take on the role of someone else. Either representing a country or an organisation, students rarely have the time to reflect on what their personal views are on the theme at hand. We spent several weeks reflecting on this problem.
What would be the best, most engaging way, of presenting students with an opportunity to think about what they want Tomorrow’s reality to be?
Our careful thought process arrived at several definitive conclusions. Our focus would remain on the Advent of Technology and its impact on our lives. We didn’t want our participants to sit down and listen to someone else share their views - that’s why we have our Camp X FJ. We wanted it to be a hands-on experience where, by deconstructing and reassembling the problem, students could reach a tangible vision on what our Future - their Future - will look like. We took our ambition of achieving a tangible solution quite literally and created 360X351, or 360 by 351.
The question that triggers the challenge is simple: What does the Future look like? Participants will be split into random but uniform teams. They will be presented with stations, each containing a series of seemingly random objects. Each of these stops represents an area technology is influenced by or has an impact on. At each stage, teams will deliberate about which objects they want to take with them, attributing them a literal or metaphoric meaning. All teams will have an equal amount of time at each station to collect the objects they find most significant, rotating between stations at regular intervals. Station Moderators will be always present and guide participants through the process, provoking their thoughts and choices, but never interfering with the team’s final verdict. After stopping at all the checkpoints, teams will then have a limited to assemble their objects into a sculpture - abstract or not. This is their vision for the Future. Lastly, teams will present their piece to a jury, explaining and pitching their vision of the Future. The team which is found to be the most convincing will go home with an award.

Issues

On your marks, get set, debate. During the last 3 days of the conference, you'll be surrounded by incredible and passionate debaters who are ready to take the podium and defend their clauses. It's your time to raise your placard and help shape tomorrow's society. Either representing your nation at the General Assembly or the Security Council, you'll be debating the impact of the Advent of Technology in our future lives.

General Assembly

> The legal status of cryptocurrencies and their regulation on the market.

> The issue of infringement of privacy for the purpose of security.

> The role and consequences of artificial intelligence in the labour market.

Security Council

> Strengthening international cooperation for sustainable use of space-related technologies and mitigating the risk of an arms race in outer space.

> The issue of election meddling.

> The Question of Venezuela.

Speakers

Throughout the duration of our Camp X Fundação da Juventude, our participants will have the opportunity of learning from an elite team of speakers, from diverse and fascinating backgrounds. From the forefront of technology to the heart of diplomacy and politics, our speakers are ready to share their knowledge and experience, preparing the next generation of Leaders. Together, they will give our Campers the complete toolkit to thrive in the increasingly digital, diplomatic and interconnected world.

  • The Advent of Technology

For the past few years, the world has become more and more interconnected due to the creation and development of new technologies. In this new age, not only have we become a true globalised society, but technology has changed and reshaped our everyday lives, impacting the way we work, travel and even fight wars. However, now, a new wave of automation and a new generation of machines is slowly taking over. Machines are now able to learn our behaviour and our patterns - essentially, they are becoming more intelligent, faster and able to complete more complicated tasks.

We've posted bellow some videos from a few channels 🎥 we love and we think you'll love too.
We regularly update them, so watch out for new content.

    The Magic of MUNs

Model United Nations are educational simulations in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations itself. MUNs involve and teach participants in various soft skills such as researching, public speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop a deeper understanding into current world issues.

    Education
    Idea-Sharing

    Research

As the participants need to represent their assigned country in the most various committees, they need to really research on the countries’ perspectives and values so they can make the best depiction of reality.

    Bonding

In conferences such as this one, participants get the opportunity to meet new students from different cultures and realities. Here, friendship and bonds are made.

    Education
    Idea-Sharing

    Writing

Resolutions are made through clauses. Students have the opportunity to develop their writing skills as they need to express what they feel is the best solution for the issue in words.

    Idea-Sharing

Idea-sharing is one of the biggest pillars of this sort of events. Students need to be able to share their points of view as well as listen and understand others. The key to diplomacy.

    Idea-Sharing

    Public Speaking

Clauses are not only written but need to be presented to the other delegates. There needs to be a debate. Through this, students gain the confidence they need to express their different perspectives to large crowds.

    João Carvalho
    Conference Manager

Starting his “MUN career” as a young 13 years old delegate, he quickly understood that the concept of a Model United Nations as we know it was yet to be used to its maximum potential. Refusing to be confined to the walls of a classroom, throughout much of his time at high-school and the entirety of his Graphic Design course, João felt the need to embrace new and bold projects and ideas. This has ultimately led to the creation of boom communication. Behind boom lies a key way of thinking: Believing in a project is to João’s eyes what determines its success. Needless to say, he is a strong believer in MUN+351.

    David Tillo
    Secretary General

Always an avid debater, especially when it comes to international relations and politics, David naturally came to develop a love for MUNs, participating throughout the years in more than 20 conferences. After being confronted with the traditional ‘book swallowing philosophy’ when pursuing his university studies in Portugal, he decided to take a year off and focus on taking the necessary qualifications to study Economics and Politics in the UK. David has always believed that Model United Nations and activities alike are exactly what is needed to break this type of approach to education, and so, it was with great pleasure and immense thrill that he accepted to be part of MUN+351.

    Mafalda Santiago
    Head of Logistics

Not new to the MUN world, she’s participated in several conferences through high-school and presided over the International Court of Justice in the largest Model United Nations conference in the North of Portugal. Involved in all sorts of projects, and together with her natural talent for organisation and team coordination, this made her the perfect candidate to manage the demanding and critical logistical department of MUN+351.

    Mafalda Azevedo
    Corporate Relations

Mafalda had a difficult time deciding what to do after the end of her secondary education. Initially drawn towards the sciences, she ended up pursuing a law course in the University of Porto. She attended her first Model United Nations conference in High- School, but it was when she became a full-time law student that she understood the hidden powers behind MUNs. Being a gifted communicator means she is the right choice to champion our leadership summit and securing the best partners.

    Who are we, anyways?

Behind MUN+351 is boom future , a creative think-tank focused on the educational and cultural empowerment of individuals. Powered by young, success-driven individuals, we have the privilege of having in our team a multitude of backgrounds and diversity which makes us, as a collective, readier to embrace the most challenging of scenarios. We are strong believers that what one is taught inside the finite walls of a school is insufficient. Transitioning from high school to university and from university to the job market, we felt like we lacked the tools needed to thrive in a highly competitive World. boom future is our answer to this dissatisfaction and MUN+351 the first in a long list of planned ventures that promise to shake up the way culture and education are done.

boom communication, parent company to boom future, focuses on communication. We are a startup company from Porto, Portugal with a fundamental objective: to improve communication. We achieve this by providing our clients with all-rounded solutions that range from brand creation & activation to film production. Design is no strange craft to us and social media management our second nature. It’s when we communicate that we share experiences, form relationships and create memories.

However, communication needs context, it needs understanding and needs adequate education. At its core, it needs people and emotion. Hence, boom focuses on the Future of society, empowering the individual to become a better communicator and an active member of Humanity, expressing ideas and impacting the World. This is why events like MUN+351 are an essential component to our DNA. Much like its solutions, boom is an all-rounded project powered by young and driven individuals which form a unique creative collective who not only embody the MUN spirit but believe great communication is for everyone.
